Last Friday was the end of Tyler’s OB/GYN rotation so he had a free weekend before his grueling surgery rotation started. So we decided it would be a good time to go up to Washington D.C. and go to the temple and do some sightseeing.
Heather was nice enough to watch Cade while Tyler and I attended the temple together. Thank you! They had fun playing on the grounds while we were there.
Cade’s hat blew off and he was very confused as to its whereabouts
The next morning we got up early and headed to the Mall area. Unfortunately, we were unaware of a bike race which had many of the main routes completely blocked off. After a series of frustrating detours, we finally managed to park and get out and enjoy the day.
First, we explored the Smithsonian’s Museum of American History.
Cade liked the “History of Transportation” exhibit. He spent the entire time pointing out all of the wheels – he was in heaven.

I promise, Cade was actually excited to see Kermit – despite the strange look he has on his face in the picture.
Next we headed to the Washington Monument for our tour.
While we waited, Cade enjoyed climbing up and down on the benches.

Then we headed to the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History.
I had promised Cade all day that we would see an elephant. He was not disappointed. As soon as he saw it he began making elephant noises. Heather even bought him a stuffed elephant from the gift shop to enjoy.
“ Did any of you Dum-Dums bring me Gum Gum?”
As we headed back to the car, we passed a booth set up promoting PBS kids and one of Cade’s favorite TV characters was there: The Cat in the Hat. Of course we had to stop so Cade could say “hi”.
The whole way home if you asked Cade what he saw today he would say “Go, go, go” from the song that the Cat in the Hat sings when he goes on his adventures. I think that Cade could have skipped all the historical stuff and just hung out with the Cat.
We had a great time together as a family and we were glad Heather was able to join us!
Cade really looks like he enjoyed himself every where he went. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
