Weekend Vacation

This week Tyler doesn't have any tests, so we decided to take advantage of the "break" in his hardcore studying and go up to Washington D.C. on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Tyler and I went to the Washington D.C. Temple. We took turns watching Cade, walking around the beautiful grounds while the other was inside.

We spent the night in Bethesda and got up early on Saturday morning and made our way to the Mall area of D.C.

We started out the morning with a tour of the U.S. Capitol Building.

Then we went to the Library of Congress. There we saw an original Gutenburg Bible and one of the giant bibles that the monks copied by hand. It makes me grateful for my current mass produced Bible. We also saw a replica of Jefferson's library. And last but not least, we looked in the actual "library" room - unfortunately it isn't as easy to get in there as they make it seem on National Treasure.
Below is a quote we really liked on the wall in the Library of Congress.

We did a TON of walking. However, Cade had the right idea, being carried by Mom or Dad or pushed around in his stroller all day!

In the afternoon, we made a quick stop at the
Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. As you can see Cade was excited by all of the astronaut stuff!

We also stopped at the National Archives to see the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. While we were in line there, Cade was all smiles as he made friends with everyone in line!

We briefly walked through the Musuem of Natural History and saw the dinosaur fossils and some crazy looking animals. By the end of the tour Cade was pretty worn out!

Before we headed back to our car we stopped at the WWII Memorial and took Cade's picture next to the Virginia column.

We parked near the Jefferson Memorial. Here is a shot we took on the walk back looking over the Potomac.
Overall, it was a great trip. We had fun seeing the sights and spending time together!

  1. It looks like you guys had a good time. Cade seems to be so excited in all of the pictures except for the one where he is asleep.

  2. What a fun trip! We've only done a few of those sights. We hope to do the rest while out here. Next time you decide to head up to the temple, let me know and we can maybe go together. That way I can watch Cade and you can go in together next time! And just so you know, my brother, Alan and our cousin Drew live in DC, so we should all get together sometime...
